Day 3 - Rochelle, IL to Prairie du Chien, WI

Today we mostly saw rolling countryside reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch but with clear sky and longer visibility. In Wisconsin the farming business was dairy. We planned a visit to cheese museum in Monroe, but having trouble finding it, we stopped and ate Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern,  Great cheese sandwiches and thousands of dollar bills thumb-tacked to the 15-ft ceiling were features.   Waiter demonstrated technique of throwing the bills with tacks to the ceiling.

Our waiter informed us that Baumgartner's receives press from the likes of Food network, PBS and You Tube.  On You Tube, search For Baumgartner's Monroe WI.  There was a posting, "Unattended Children will be given a shot and a puppy".

We were surprised that dairy country is windmill country.

Now Beth is admonishing the children running the hall and squealing.  Where's the shot and the puppy?

Beth's Postcript:

Bill wrote the post today, so I'm adding my impressions at the end...

In the town of Monroe, WI, all the streets are numbered.  The "Streets" run north/south, and the "Avenues" ran east/west.  It was so confusing.  Do we turn on 10th Street or 10th Avenue? Couldn't they be a little more creative in their street names??  How about Elm Street?

We were driving through farmland, really in the middle of nowhere, when we passed a bowling alley!  No houses, no other businesses, just cornfields.  People must really love to bowl around here!  Aren't all the champions on TV from the Midwest?

I was fascinated by the windmills.  They are HUGE.  We turned on a side road and drove right by them.  I wonder if  their "whooshing" sound bothers the cows?

The running and squealing children were the last straw...I had to say something...
