Day 7 Wall to Keystone

Just outside Wall near the Bad Lands we took a tour of a former Minuteman launch control and silo facility.  Each of the missiles  carries more megaton power than all the bombs of WWII.  Following are a few photos at one of the 500 silo facilities shut down by treaty with USSR.

In the Black Hills, we saw the Crazy Horse monument which has been under construction for the past 60 years.  The horse's head should become evident during the next 10 years.  When complete,Crazy Horse and the horse's feet will be finished, so the statue will begin at the elevation of the base of the trees below.  Unless you blow the picture up the excavation equipment is inconspicuously small.

We went to the evening lighting ceremony at mount Rushmore. It was an inspiring presentation telling the stories of the four Presidents and how they overcame adversity to become great men.  At the end, all former and present military members were asked to come to the stage area to help lower the flag.  It was very moving.
