Oct 5 - Pendleton to McCall ID Hells Canyon Scenic Drive (end of road)

Not smart enough to count off days any more. We are leaving Will and Christina's and taking a last look back at Pendleton from a Blue Mountain overlook some miles a way.

The Hell's Canyon Scenic Drive starts in Legrande and runs to Hell's Canyon  on the Idaho border.  what we saw was small towns and both boring and beautiful scenery.  We stopped for lunch in Elgin OR, (population about 1600.  Being a self respecting place, they had an opera hall, saloon and rodeo ground.

There was a lot of enjoyable road scenery east of Elgin
Lake Wallowa near Joseph OR.  There is a beautiful campground at the other end.  Joseph has a well known Foundary.

An example of the foundry work was outside Joseph City Hall

Oh oh.  There are no detour roads.  We must retrace most of our days drive before we can begin to make headway toward our reservations for the night.
None of the numerous Hell's Canyon Scenic Drive signs warned us of this unexpected end.
