Oct 13 Grand Junction to Ft Morgan,CO

We drove along 70 to Denver first and then on 76 to Ft Morgan.  See Colorado river on right just outside Grand Junction.

Above, thees are beginning to grow on one of the mountains that was burned in the South Canyon fire back in the 1990's.  160 people, including 12 firefighters perished.

I think we are at the Glenwood Canyon Rest stop here.  Not only is the Canyon scenic, but the highway is unusual.  West lane stacked above east bound in areas - with a bicycle lane bside river.  Awesome

From I-70, we turned onto 25 south toward Leadville to begin the top of the Rockies Scenic Byway.  It includes there national forests and picturesque mining towns.  I liked the Eagle River bridge

Colorado has more than 50 peaks above 14000 feet.  Mt Massey 14421' is second and Pikes Peak is 31st.  See how Massey towers above the closer mountains.

Leadville is highest (elevation 10200') city in the US.  Music quiz: For what opera is the Tabor (Leadville) Opera House is the setting?

I think the opera house is on the left, just past where the cyclist is walking his dog (right lane)
the dog hardly has time to sniff

In this valley there were mining towns during booms.  In 1965 the last town's remaining nine residents, and the area has undergone reclamation to become nature habitat

There was lingering snow at Clinton Gulch Reservoir

Tried jumping one of the higher peaks there.Need to get feet up better

Georgetown bighorn sheep viewing area.  No sheep seen.   There is a scenic reservoir

Sunset just east of Denver
