Jan 20-21 John Day and back to Pendleton

We had camped at Narrows Campground near Malheur national bird refuge.   Being mid-winter there was Little to see at there, so we headed toward John Day Fossil Beds and Paleontology Center. The fossil beds serve as reference to dating fossils world wide.  Near Fossil (town) the public can dig and find fossils.  Below is sheep rock, renowned for turtle cove strata.

We camped in Mitchel City campground.  You pretty much see the City in the background.  There is no cell phone service,  so folks have to holler down the street.

One of he several features was this Justice Court, which is in session a couple hours every couple weeks.  The town ballot box was located outside town hall across the street.

On Jan 21, we headed for Pendleton

We stopped at the Painted Hills overlook.  We were alone with God and nature

On the way Fossil there's about 10 miles of one-and-a-half lane gravel road around mountains.  We thankfully met no oncoming vehicles.

Now north of river through beautiful ranch lands

We ate lunch in Fossil and drove back through fog to Pendleton.  You can see it rolling in here.

We parked in Will's driveway until Jan 29.
