Feb 5 to Saguara Nationa Forest and Butterfield Resort And Observatory

Leaving Augie's Quail Trail Campground at Gila Bend, we saw interesting landscape.  We approached this for many miles.
Lots of mobile homes and campers along the road

We stopped at Red Rock exit for nature breaks.  We saw this and saw in the distance there is at Pinal Airfield where there is a huge bone yard for big aircraft

then we began seeing Cacti

At the park there were cacti everywhere

many cacti over 20 ft tall

many kinds
Their number reminds you of a crowd of great many people

We stayed the night  at Butterfield Observatory and Resort in Benson, AZ. This is a nice park with normal RV amenities plus there is an observatory.  The nightly session with amateur astronomer and 16 inch reflective telescope was amazing.

  1. You probably heard a saguaro is 75 years old before it grows an arm. The skeletons from a dead one are pretty and they are protected because people steal them to make floor lamps, coat racks, etc. The 20' tall one you're standing beside probably weighs 5 tons (stored water).
