May 27 Chinok Pass and Mt Ranier and on toward Grant WA

Stopped to use ATM and left Ellensburg, a picturesque town and home of Central Washington U.  Lots of interesting local eateries, but we had loaded up at Ihop

From Ellensburg, we drove south along the Yakima River Scenic Byway.  A beautiful drive along the scenic river we camped next to the night before.

From Yakima we traveled south and picked up Rt 410  (Chinook National Scenic Byway) to Chinook Pass, entrance to Mt Rainer National Park.  The pass closes in November because it accumulates up to 15 ft of snow -  a significant avalanche danger.  The pass had been reopened a week prior.

Avalanche country

Called Blue Lake
We think our pic of it is better (of Blue lake)

Narada Falls
We waited for clouds around the summit  to move to right so we could get a clear view of this peak .
Mt Rainer stands above mts in foreground and is tallest Mt in lower 48

Downstream
Located in the southeast corner of the park is Ohanapecosh River. Visitors to Ohanapecosh  experience the beauty and complexity of an old-growth forest. These photos are taken  from a bridge overlook.

We camped for the evening in the foothills of Mt Ranier at Rainbow RV Resort.  It is a full service campground with a number of lake fishing amenities.  Beth noticed this fully graveled campground advertised "Dirt-Free Camping" - a real plus in this rainy region.
