About 10 AM, we left Richmond by train on March 26 for DC and then to Chicago. From Richmond to DC it was Coach. Then for the legs to Chicago and and Pasco WA we had a sleeper. When you book a sleeper it's with meals included in dining car and an attendant for the car catering to your needs. At the station there's first class waiting rooms with free sodas, etc. We met convivial co-travelers there but nobody famous. En route to to Chicago we were told there was a chemical car derailment derailment and fire between Toledo and Chicago. we would be "detraining" at Toledo to board "motor coaches" for Chicago. This happened about 5 AM, so we missed our first class breakfast. After Chicago we rode up the Mississippi, across North Dakota. Mostly dirt roads, fields, and oil wells. More details about it on the way back. Then Montana. much prarie, and then then mountains - Glacier Park Below are a couple photos from observation car. It is cloudy and getting dark, so these look B&W.
