Black Hills /Sturgis, SD / Devils Tower - May 16

Starting from Beaver Lake Campground we drove into Custer. There is a good period county museum there that we visited last time and highly recommend.
We picnicked at Pactola Lake

During the annual rally, population of Sturgis of 6K explodes to 500K

being NOT rally week, we saw most bikes here

and no bikes at the half dozen watering holes.

x
for now, imagine the center lane with 50K parked bikes and thousands more coming and going
To Deadwood.  For a town that's been burned three times, this gold rush final resting place of Wild Bill Hickock had recovered as a tourist destination

Complete with trolly buses

Picturesque homes
Lead, SD - not so pretty.  Former mining town.  See closed shafts.

The trap is currently being excavated to assess history
Thinking the entrance is on the far side
On to Devils Tower.
Devils Tower about 8 miles away in Devil's Tower National Park

We took lots of pictures of the tower, but none communicate its awesome size,  Would need permit to climb.

We camped at All Seasons Campground in Rozet, East of Gillette.  Olan and family are owners/hosts
